The Word of God

12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4 v 12

In these end times where deception abounds, spiritual warfare is ever increasing and the love of many going cold, the greatest weapon a follower of Christ has is the Word of God. The word brings us hope and stirs up faith when all seems to fall apart. If faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10 v 17) then the word should never depart from us. There appears to be no situation we face in this dispensation that hasn’t already taken place before. King Solomon eloquently said:

9 The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

Ecclesiastes 1 v 9

In the book of John chapter 1, we read that everything in this world was created by the Word and that Word is Jesus!

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

John 1 v 1-5

Without the Word, the universe as we know it would not exist and the foundations of the earth would not have been established. For He commanded and they were created (Psalm 148 v 5)! Call me simple but I rather believe the Word of God than the theories of man such as the Big Bang theory or evolution!

When looking at the creation story in Genesis chapter 1, I noticed a reoccurring theme of “God said”. Every time God said something, His word caused a chain reaction and led to this visible earth as we know it forming out of nothing. Wow! One Word of God can cause a seismic effect in whatever situation we speak the Word into. Since we are created in His image, our words also carry the same power if uttered with faith. Have you ever wondered what life would be like if we lived according to the Word of God, declared it in our daily endeavours and the impact that would have in our lives and the world at large? I don’t believe it’s possible to live in a utopian society since we are in a fallen world however I do believe its possible to live in God’s perfect will for us. Bible says in Psalm 119 v 105

105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

How does one know the perfect will of God for their life? After all are we not here to live our lives as we see fit and do good to others as often as we please? The answer can be found in Romans 12 v 2 where we are encouraged by the Apostle Paul in his epistle:” And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

I know a young woman who had a lot going on in life for her. She had a successful career, a relationship that seemed perfect on the outside and had no lack from the perspective of those around her. This young lady, however, felt a deep emptiness in her soul that none of the worldly acquisitions could bring fulfilment to. She began to feel there must be more to life than her achievements and began to seek the face of God. It was through the word of God she realised that although she was successful according to the standard of the world, in the sight of God, she was a poor wretched soul who needed a saviour.

130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.

Psalm 119 v 130

The light which emanates from the Word of God exposes the hidden deeds of darkness in one’s heart and life and since darkness cannot stand the power of the light, it has no choice but to flee. The word of God exposes our sins causes us to become uncomfortable with those things we used to tolerate. The word of God has been transforming the lives of multitudes in times of old and is still doing the same today. For the Word of God which is Jesus Christ has not lost its power because He is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13 v 8). In our studies of the life of King David on this site, we have seen how the Word of God directed his life. During biblical times, God would send his Holy prophets and Apostles to relay His thoughts, warnings and requirements to kings, nations and individuals. Apostle Paul makes us understand in 2 Timothy 3 v 16 to 17 that:

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

We in this era are very fortunate to have the Word at our disposal in various translations, languages and formats such as audio, Apps and physical copies. This same Word is active and is alive today and is the basis of our knowledge of God. He speaks to us through His Word and through the Word we learn of His ways. The words of our Lord Jesus Christ below is being fulfiled by the spreading of His Word.

14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

Matthew 24 v 14

The gospel is being preached on social media platforms all around the world and a vast majority of the earth’s population are hearing it. Almost all of the prophet Daniel’s visions have already come to pass and we await what is to manifest from the book of Revelation. Many so-called intellects today may look scornfully at the Bible and those who believe in it by saying it was written by mere men some thousands of years ago and thus has no place in today’s society. Many have said times have changed and we need not constrain our lives with what is written in it. These same people would rather believe in man-made theories such as humans evolving from apes than the biblical account of man being formed in the image of God. Let’s not be deceived, the Word of God is still relevant to us in today’s society especially when you see prophetic words uttered and written thousands of years ago being fulfilled in our days. The word of God is true and as long as its God who inspired it, it will surely come to pass.

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Isaiah 55 v11

We in these last days should be interested in God’s word as it pinpoints us in the direction of where the world is heading. Many of prophecies written in the Bible have been fulfilled and are being fulfilled on a daily basis. The fact that God has magnified His words above His name (Psalm 138 v 2) should show us that we need to also magnify His word above all things for it is by the same Word of God that we will be judged.

Most Bibles have a concordance at the back for reference and with the easy accessibility of the Internet, it’s very simple to search any topic of interest. Those who want to delve deeper can purchase an extensive concordance to help research any topic in the Bible.

We are blessed to have all these resources at hand as many do not have this privilege. A time is coming when the word of God will be scarce so while we still have the opportunity let’s become “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:” 1 Peter 2 v 2

I pray the Lord Jesus Christ will give you a hunger for His Word and…

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:

18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,

Ephesians 1 v 17-19

Amen
